As a resident, what should I do to prepare?

 

  • Educate yourself and your family members about the event. 
    • Consider safety gear
  • Consider a safe viewing site ahead of time with friends and family 
  • Plan for road closures; plan alternate route. 
  • Plan for congestion on US 183, 281, and 190. 
  • Stock up on necessary supplies ahead of time; fill gas tank if needed. 
  • Refill medications in advance due to possible pharmacy closures. 
  • Prepare for unreliable internet and cell service. 
    • Have enough cash on hand 
    • Contact family members to communicate plans due to possible loss of service 
  • Limited City Facilities will be available as safe viewing areas, these locations will have sanitary restrooms and hand washing stations.
    • Plan for parking fees at City Parks 
    • No Alcohol in City Parks per City Ordinance 
  • Create an emergency plan in case of an unexpected incident during the eclipse.
