Reduction in Speed Limit

Speed Reduction News

The City of Lampasas asked the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to conduct a traffic study from the 100 Block of South 281 to the South city limits due to increased traffic, development along the roadways, and the volume of accidents that had been occurring on the roadways.

The Lampasas Police Department is happy to report that since the roadway changes to South 281 it has gone from a high volume accident area to no reported accidents occurring on the roadway.

Due to the study, the Commission for TxDOT advised speed limit changes will be made to the following speed limits.

1. From Key Avenue onto U.S. 281 which, TxDOT also refers to as this area as U.S. 281/190, the 35 MPH speed limit will extend to just south of Naruna Road.

2. The 45 MPH speed limit will then extend to the current 55 MPH speed limit and will end just south of Alfredo’s Mexican Restaurant.

3. The existing 60 MPH speed limit will be reduced to 55 MPH and extend past the city limits to the current end of the 60 MPH speed limit.

The ordinance which was adopted for these speed zones changes, was passed by the City Council of Lampasas on November 13, 2017. When TxDOT makes these changes, which will be in approximately 3 to 6 weeks, the speed limit signs will have flags on them for a couple of weeks to draw motorist’s attention to the new speed zones to alert motorist to slow down and observe the posted speed limit.

Until the signs are posted, the Lampasas Police Department will continue to enforce the current posted speed limits. Once TxDOT places the new speed limit signs the Lampasas Police Department will allow a grace period for those areas affected by the change.

We remind motorist to please be alert for the new signage, and, as always be attentive to the traffic laws.
